108th Annual - Lloyd Mills - NE State Open - October 14, 2006

The Nebraska Checkers Association recently held their 108^th Annual Nebraska State Open Checkers Tournament at the American Legion Post #1 in Omaha, NE on Saturday 10/14/2006.
The Lloyd Mills Memorial - 108^th Annual Nebraska State Open Checkers Tournament was dedicated to the memory and in honor of Lloyd Mills of Lincoln, NE who dominated Nebraska Checkers from 1944 to 1989 winning the State Title 38 times!
Registration was at 9AM and play started at 10AM.
There were two divisions (A & B) and a total of 13 players in the event. The B division was one short and had to figure a bye in each round. This tournament saw the most entries since 1986.
The Swiss-System using 3-Move openings with 5 Rounds was the choice of play for this tournament.
A New State Champion was crowned after a very close day of competition. Rev. E.C. Oliver of Omaha defeated a strong field in Class A that included 4 Time State Champion John Pestal of Omaha and 3 Time Champion George Stallsworth of Schuyler, NE.

George Stallsworth presents The Championship Trophy to Rev. E.C. Oliver of Omaha. George was the defending Champion and holds 3 State Titles.
